Framework in Action
Online Tool Helps School Staff See Trends in Disciplinary Incidents

Pueblo City Schools Develops Data Systems to Improve School Climate – Pueblo, CO

A new online tool allows Pueblo City Schools to better assess trends in problem behavior and proactively respond to challenges, improving the school environment for more than 18,000 students in the district.

Through its Safe Schools/Healthy Students initiative, Pueblo City Schools put into action a Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) systems framework for improving academic and behavioral outcomes for all students. This framework includes a comprehensive data- collection system to track student behavior. It provides an interactive online map to depict disciplinary data and identify patterns and trends.

The integrated database is used to identify the time of day and location of disciplinary incidents so that staff can respond to “hot spots,” and use the data to make decisions about how to best allocate resources.

“The data piece is a critical framework for the whole effort. Getting that software into place allowed us to propel forward with the work that needed to get done.”Randy Evetts, SS/HS Project Director, Pueblo City Schools
