Please mark your calendars and register now for an exciting online learning event on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 from 2:00 – 3:15 pm ET, facilitated by Kristi Silva from the National Latino Behavioral Health Association, DJ Ida from the National Asian American Pacific Islander Mental Health Association, and Nadia Cayce from the National Leadership Council for African American Behavioral Health, which will focus on the importance of engaging families of color to improve the educational outcomes for all students. Kristi, DJ, and Nadia will address African American, Hispanic/Latino and Asian American/Pacific Islander student populations, but strategies presented may be applicable to all diverse families.

This learning event will discuss how you can get to know the diverse families in your communities and strategies to outreach and engage them, while developing trusting relationships. It will also talk about how to become aware of common cultural values and behaviors for those of the same ethnic group while recognizing that each family has its own unique history and set of experiences that make them different from others. You will also have an opportunity to ask about local challenges that are specific to your community. We encourage you to invite other staff, partners, or family members who are interested in attending to become better prepared to work with diverse families.

Please be sure to forward this registration link to anyone at the state or local level who might benefit from this training.
