Comprehensive School Mental Health Services: Why and What?

Participants gained an understanding about the extent and nature of mental health needs among our nation’s children and youth and the importance of addressing those needs with effective services and supports to improve the lives of children, youth, families, and communities.

Freeman, LISW-CP & AP, M.S.W., School Mental Health Consultant/Resource Specialist, American Institutes for Research, National Resource Center for Mental Health Promotion and Youth Violence Prevention,  identified and described essential components of a comprehensive school mental health program and early steps to position your community to capitalize on its existing assets to prevent, detect, and treat mental health needs of its emerging population.
